At Aurora Buddy, we believe your data should stay as private as a quiet night in the wilderness. This policy explains how we handle your information.

1. Location Data

To tell you if an aurora is visible, we need to know where you are. We use your location in two ways:

• Foreground Location: Used while the app is open to display your position on the aurora map and calculate local visibility.
• Background Location: If you grant permission, we monitor your location in the background. This allows us to send you accurate push notifications if the aurora becomes visible near you, even if you've traveled to a new city or country since you last opened the app.

2. Third-Party Services

We partner with industry-leading services to provide a premium experience:

• Mapbox: We use Mapbox to render our beautiful dark-sky maps. Mapbox may collect anonymized location data to improve their map services.
• Firebase (Google): We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver your aurora alerts and Firebase Crashlytics to receive anonymous reports if the app crashes, helping us fix bugs faster.

3. Data Retention

We do not sell your location history to third parties. Your location is used purely for the functional purpose of aurora forecasting and alerting. Aggregated, non-identifiable data may be used to analyze app performance.

4. Your Controls

You are in the driver's seat. You can enable or disable location permissions and push notifications at any time through your iOS System Settings. If you disable background location, you will still receive alerts based on your last known location, but they may be less accurate if you travel.
